But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
Some people don’t believe that the Lord will ever return because of all the time that has passed us by without His return. Yet this verse dismantles that unfounded reasoning. Time, in God’s comprehension, is very different from man’s perception of time. God is eternal whereas man is limited. Our life-span is but a breath in comparison with God Who was and is and ever shall be. Despite the truth of God’s Word and the many affirmations of God’s great glory and power, much of mankind is wilfully ignorant and they deliberately choose to dismiss God from their lives and exalt themselves. By doing this, they sever their lifeline to their only means of escape. Judgement is coming on a world that has rejected Him, but we believers will already be with Him in heaven before His wrath is poured out. However much we long to be with Him, and no matter how much time has passed, God is not slow in carrying out His plans and purposes. His timing is always perfect, and that is non-negotiable. If he delays…there is a reason. And any delay is an additional stream of grace into a Christ-rejecting, sinful world; enabling those sinners more time to turn to Christ for salvation. Let us redeem the time we have left and use our days wisely, as we wait for the glorious day when we will see Him face to face.
