And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.
We are called to be bond-servants of the Lord and as such, are not to follow our own wishes but those of Jesus Christ our Savior. As His servants, we are all called to share the truth of the glorious gospel of grace, despite the fact that the life of a believer is far from easy. Many of those with whom we desire to share the good news of Christ, oppose the Word of God and make it difficult and discouraging for us to share this precious truth. But Paul admonished us to avoid arguments and disputes that cause friction and discord, and to speak the truth in love. We are to display the fruit of the spirit in whatever life circumstance we find ourselves to be. It is not sufficient for us to expose error and identify false teachings. We are to be equipped by the Spirit to give wise instruction and biblically based truth to all who oppose us, and to teach that truth in love. Let all of us who are servants of the Lord Jesus, avoid quarrelsome disputes and not be argumentative in our delivery of the truth. Rather, may we be gentle, gracious, kind-hearted, and patient to everyone, including those who oppose and ridicule us, as we seek to teach the truth in love…to the glory of God.
