Isaiah 26:9

My soul yearns for you in the night; my spirit within me earnestly seeks you. For when your judgments are in the earth,
the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.

I love the early morning hours when sunlight creeps through the kitchen window creating long shadows and illuminating the darkness. There is nothing sweeter to me than meditating and praying first thing every morning…listening for God’s voice as He speaks into my heart. It’s like a new sunrise daily that expels the darkness and overflows my soul with light. Just as we often pursue God’s wisdom to illuminate our way, as portrayed in today’s verse, we’re also told that a great multitude of people always gathered to hear Jesus speak. If you really think about it, Jesus’s time was before the microphone was invented. I would bet it was pretty difficult for a lot of the people to hear what He had to say without really straining to listen…don’t you think? But, Jesus didn’t want people to simply hear the words He spoke. There’s a big difference between “hearing” and “listening,” wouldn’t you agree? I used to always wonder if my daughter even heard what I was saying to her when she didn’t respond to me, but I soon realized that most of the time, she “heard,” but simply didn’t “listen!” In this passage, Jesus urges us to pay attention to what we hear in the dark and become lights to brighten the way for others. So my question to you is…are you in the dark, or walking in the light??
