My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
Jesus came to heal the broken-hearted, to set the captives free, to cause the lame to walk again, and to make the blind to see. He also came to comfort the sorrowing heart and to calm the grieving, confused soul. And what reassurance must have been shed abroad in the hearts of His disciples when they heard this verse. Christ’s followers knew that something shocking, yet stupendous was in the air, but they did not understand. They were about to face the most traumatic few hours in the history of the universe, when the Son of God willingly spread wide His arms of love to embrace us with His everlasting forgiveness, and crown all who would believe on His name, the gift of life eternal. His own, righteous Life in exchange for our sad, sinful lives. Jesus had taught His followers that He alone is the way to the Father, His Word is true, and in Him is eternal life. But, like the disciples, we may be broken-hearted, lost, blind, or sorrowing, and we may not understand, but God’s Word is as true today as it was back then. So, remember what Jesus says in this verse…He has prepared a place for us.
