John 14:27

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give you. I give to you not as the world gives. Don’t be troubled or afraid.

Before my mother passed away, she gave me a necklace with an angel pendant. She said, “every time you hold this pendant, just think of me and I’ll be there.” Obviously, the necklace is very important to me. Not because it’s worth a lot of money, but because it was the last gift I received from her and it was meant to try to bring me peace during troubled times. Jesus did the same thing with the disciples. His gift was not tangible, but was just as valuable. It was a message during troubled times. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.” Jesus gave his disciples a guarantee of peace before his eventual death and rise to ascension. He was reassuring them with love, comfort, and encouragement. God’s promises are just as true for us as they were for His disciples. When all you see is bad news on the television or your social media is constantly overfilled with negativity, we can remember His words that promise a hope-filled future. It’s not as simple as believe and it will be so. It requires effort on our part. We will not be at peace if we are not soaking in His presence. If you are struggling to find hope, seek Him; and God will give you peace.
