He must increase, but I must decrease.
A simple, yet remarkable verse. This is one of the most marvelous statements ever made. God must become greater, and we must become less. It is easy for us to want to hold on to our positions. We exhaust a great deal of effort trying to protect those positions and keep them for ourselves. This verse is teaching us how to exalt God and humble ourselves before God. This is obviously an important characteristic in God’s sight. God opposes the proud but gives grace to those who are humble. Sometimes we just need to get out of His way and let God accomplish what He intends. When that happens, much is accomplished. On the other hand, when we step in and try to help God along, we may find ourselves actually working against what God desires to do. It’s simple really. Don’t be a roadblock to God’s plan. Just step aside and let Him work. We must remember, it’s not about us…it is all about Jesus.
