He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
It was through the perfect Law of Moses that God showed mankind what is good and acceptable in His sight. Mankind was to praise the Lord, walk in faithful obedience to Him, love Him, and humbly serve Him with all their heart and soul. But the sinful nature in man that was imputed to the human race when Adam and Eve disobeyed God, caused man to walk in bitterness towards God in disobedience, and to place self on the throne of his life, instead of the Lord. The Law and sacrifices given to Moses were copies of heavenly things and foreshadowed God’s better Sacrifice; for the Law was only a shadow of the good things to come and not the actual form of those realities. The Law could never perfect the worshipers and provide faultless cleansing for those who came to worship God, year after year. It is only those that have trusted Christ as their Savior who are able to act justly and be merciful and walk humbly before their God, for only those that are born from above have been endowed with the new-life in Christ, the godly nature of Christ Jesus. Only believers are imputed with His righteousness which alone can act justly, love faithfully, and walk humbly before God. If a born-again believer chooses to live their life from the source of the old sin nature, he will never do that which is pleasing in the sight of God. Only as a believer lives his life from the source of the new life in Christ is he able…through the power or His Spirit, to the glory of God the Father. May we choose to walk in the Spirit today, and in His strength and for His glory. Let us act justly, love faithfully, and walk humbly before God.
