A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.
The word merry means happy, joyful, and full of cheer. Your heart is your inner self, your emotions, your will. Medicine is a treatment, it alleviates an illness. Anxiety causes depression and it can have a powerful influence over your body. A joyful and peaceful mind fortifies our mental health and helps to resist illness. If your heart is in the right place, your body will be lifted up too. Your world will be uplifting, your relationships will be enhanced. However, a broken heart will cause deterioration of the body, and you will be unable to encourage those around you. The best way to cultivate a merry heart is to spend time in the presence of God. In God’s company, we experience the fullness of joy.
